A Beekeeper’s Pride: Recognized for Exceptional Bee Genetics

Every now and then, you hear something that stops you in your tracks—in a good way.

Recently, we had the opportunity to share our bees with Mark Dinishak, the Geauga County Apiary Inspector for the Ohio Department of Agriculture. After spending the past year inspecting bees across six different states, he told us:

“I’ve inspected bees in six states in the past year, and the best bees I’ve seen are yours! I hope you sell bees this year because we want your genetics in our county!”

That’s the kind of compliment that really means something.

If you’ve ever worked with bees, you know this isn’t something that happens by accident. Healthy, strong colonies come from a lot of time, patience, and paying attention to the details. It’s about doing the right things consistently—keeping hives strong, managing them carefully, and letting good genetics shine through over time.

Hearing that our bees stood out among so many others across multiple states is incredibly rewarding. Not just because it feels good to be recognized, but because it confirms that what we’re doing is working.

Good bee genetics matter more than most people realize. Strong colonies are better at handling stress, more productive in the long run, and play a bigger role in pollination for local farms and gardens. When the bees are thriving, everything around them benefits too.

What really stood out to us in that moment wasn’t just the compliment—it was the interest in bringing those genetics into another county. That says a lot about the need for strong, reliable bees and the impact they can have beyond just one apiary.

We’re proud of the work that’s gone into building these colonies, and even more excited about where it could lead. Whether that means expanding, sharing bees with others, or simply continuing to improve what we already have, it’s a great reminder that the effort is worth it.

At the end of the day, we’re just doing what we love—taking care of our bees. But moments like this make you step back and appreciate just how far that work can go. 🐝
